Oh, Mary was a maiden

When the birds began to sing

She was sweeter Than the blooming rose

So early in the spring

메리는 아름다운 아가씨였었죠

새들이 노래하는 봄이 되면은

그녀는 활짝 핀 장미보다도

훨씬 더 아름다웠죠

Her thoughts were gay and happy  

And the morning gay and fine 

For her lover Was a river boy

On the river in the pines

그녀는 맑고 화창한 날씨처럼 

무척이나 행복해 했었죠

그녀에겐 연인이 있었으니까요 

솔밭사이로 흐르는

강가에 살고있던...

Now Charlie, he got married

To his Mary in the spring 

When the trees were budding early

And the birds began to sing

나무에선 새싹이 돋아나고  

새들이 노래하기 시작하는

이른 봄날에

챨리는 메리와 결혼을 했어요 

But early in the autumn 

When the fruit is in the wine

I'll return to you, my darling

From the river in the pines

하지만 과일로 술을 담그는  

가을이 되자 챨리는 그녀에게  

솔밭사이로 흐르는 강가를 

떠나야 한다고 말했어요

'T was early in the morning

In Wisconsin dreary clime

When he ruled the fatal rocket

For that last and feudal time

어느 날 이른 아침이었어요 

황량한 벌판에서  

챨리가 로켓을 조종하던 그날은   

그의 마지막 날이었어요

They found his body lying 

On the Rocky shore below

Where the silent water ripples

And the whispering cedars blow

물결이 잔잔히 흐르는

바닷가에서 죽어있는 챨리를

사람들이 발견하고선

떡갈나무 아래에 그를 묻었주었어요

Now every raft or lumber  

That's come down  

The chip away

언젠가부터 숲속에 있던

나무들이 하나 둘씩     

베어져 없어지게 되었죠

There's a lonely grave that's visited 

By drivers on their way

They plant the wild flowers upon it

In the morning fair and fine

'Tis the grave of two young lovers

From the river in the pines

그곳에 있던 외로운 무덤위에   

지나가던 여행자들이

어느 화창하고 맑은 아침에   

이름모를 들꽃들을 심어주었죠 

젊은연인의 무덤은 솔밭사이로

흐르는 강가에 있었으니까요..
